The UK Government has published details of 600 acres of surplus public sector land for sale as part of its drive to see tens of thousands of new homes built across the country.
Housing Minister Brandon Lewis urged developers to seize the opportunity and look at the sites via the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA). Some 80 public land sites are now for sale and there will be 40 more over the next 18 months.
As few as 1,800 homes have been built on public land sold by the Government, despite claims that more than 100,000 would be completed, it has emerged.
Ministers have repeatedly claimed that the Government sold enough land to build more 109,000 homes on formerly publicly owned brownfield land has been sold since 2011.
